Z Brush

Ive been using Z brush this week after my tutor went through the basics with me on monday, it looked like fun to use so i knocked up a few basic models to play around with for my project August. I can see myself getting to grips with this program a lot more in the future.

Passive Encounter

Ive been working up this particular environment over the last week doing several differnt versions of it. Its based on a very rough maya model, doesnt help with details but its a good way of quickly working out the fundamentals of the composition which saves me time for focusing on the detailing and other areas that need working on. Originally this was going to be an aggresive ambush predator leaping down onto the Polo ship but then i thought 'these poor ships are always being attacked' so I decided to turn the composition into a curious encounter between a giant blind invertebrate beast and the ship. I imagine these guys slowly climbing from bulb structure to bulb structure as their arrary of little feeler tentacles forage for scraps of food or maybe some sort of secretion from the bulbs them selves.

Portfolio

A couple of more polished up images, generating a large body of concept work over the last academic year has left me a bit out of touch with the idea of spending extra time on images to make them look presentable, my focus has been alot more on the idea rather than the quality of the painting its self but it makes a fun change to not be constantly watching the clock trying to speed things up.

I took my work to the printers today so that I can have my portfolio ready for FMX on the 22nd (so excited). Im glad Ive got the work ready but the dead line is not for another two months almost, which means theres plenty more work to produce between now and then that I will not be able to put into the portfolio...

Red Terrorish

I grew up playing warhammer, absolutely loved it. It formed a huge part of my inspiration to be a concept artist, I remember seeing an advert in White Dwarf asking artist to come forwards and apply for a Concept Artist job they had going. It was that point that I discovered my dream job.
 
This concept is for my university project called Project August. Which focuses on producing pre vis art that is designed to help visualise an alien world with a thriving eco system, aimed towards a game or film project.
